Let’s face it, “stalking” is somewhat of a scary word. And if you’re thinking of the Police’s “Every Breath You Take,” it definitely is. But as weird as it may sound, being in PR makes you an expert stalker. We stalk our media contacts and competitors’ social media accounts and LinkedIn profiles as well as potential new clients’ websites and their current PR firms (aka the competition).
Stalking these folks can also be a major help when pitching a story. I’ve found the more you know about the person or people you’re trying to connect with, the more effective your communication will be.
